Per Copy The weather Thursday: high 84, low 51, hum. 52 percent, and by 7 a.m. Friday .81 inches of rain had fallen. Eugene V. Debs Earth Week celebrations begin this week across the United States. In Tryon, videos will be shown at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. Two will be shown today at 12:15 p.m., "Commune With Dolphins," and The Sierra Club's "Polar Bear." On Tues day, at 12:15 p.m., the shows will be "Environmental Vision," and "Sea Mammals," by Jacques Cousteau. On Wednes day at 4 p.m., the features will be "White Wolf," and "Dol phins." The second in a series of meetings on domestic abuse, entitled "A Look At Abuse and the Abuser," will be held at Saluda School at 7 p.m. toniglit. The Landrum High School Band and Chorus will perform at the PTSA meeting tonight in the high school cafeteria. The Second Annual American (Continued On Back Page) Concert Band Seeking Players The newly organized Com munity Concert Band is for former band people that after playing in school, no longer have a place to play. Many of the present players have not played their instru ments for many years but they are having fun again. Dust off you old horn and help the band get ready for the first "Sunday-In-The-Park Con cert" on June 2nd, 2 p.m. on the Columbus Courthouse lawn. Refreshments every Monday night at 7 p.m. in the band room of Tryon Elementary School. —Community Reporter Job Of The Military Chaplain The job of the Army Chaplain is the subject of the program for the regular meeting of the Tryon Lions Club this Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the West ern Steer. He is faced with new chal lenges now that the war is over in the Persian Gulf area. The speaker is former Army Cha plain, Rev. Elijah A. Cockman, Pastor of Tryon United Meth odist Church. Jim "Curley" Newsome is in charge of the program. —Community Reporter Read The Bulletin For Local News Winstead-Freer Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Earl Winstead, Jr. announce the engagement of their daughter. Dr. Vivian Winstead of Tryon, to Ronald Wayne Freer of Tryon, son of Doris Freer of Fannin, TX. Ron attended the Rhode Island School of Design. He is presently employed by Stony Knoll Farm. Vivian Anne, Sis a graduate of N.C. I of Veterinary Medicine, and practices at Bonnie Brae Vet Hospital in Lynn. The wedding is planned for 5:30 p.m. May 11, at Highland Lake Conference Center in Flat Rock, N.C. New Arrival A son was born Wednesday, April 17 to Jack and Beth Ann Holmes of 163 Rippy Road in Tryon. T.P.S. Biennial Juried Show Accepts Entries Tryon Painters and Sculptors is accepting entries for its Third Biennial Western North Caro lina Juried Art Exhibit. Delivery of entries will be on Thurs., April 25th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fri., April 26th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The entries must be hand- delivered to the Tryon Fine Arts Center Gallery and can be paintings no larger than 40" or sculpture no heavier than 50 lbs. No more than two entries are allowed per person. Ms. Gaynell Bowles of the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh will judge the art on May 1st. Ms. Bowles has had extensive experience in teach ing art history and running art programs with the San Diego Museum of Art before joining the education staff in Raleigh Prizes will be awarded for the first three places and, in addi tion, five honorable mentions will be given. The actual exhibit will then begin for the public on Sunday, May 12th with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibit will be shown through Sat., May 25th. - Community Reporter. Al-Anon meets every Tues day at 8 p.m. at Tryon Pres byterian Church on Harmon Field Rd. Al-Anon is a group for spouses, families and friends of people who have a drinking problem.
